Local insight: Steep slopes overlooking Lake Travis require riprap drainage channels and heavy timber outdoor viewing decks.
Because the slopes are so steep, level outdoor space is scarce, and the best solution is often to build out rather than dig in. We construct heavy-timber viewing decks and elevated platforms anchored into the rock that capture the lake and Hill Country views while leaving the natural slope intact — a more practical answer than trying to bench a flat pad into solid limestone.
The soil is thin over rock, drains fast, and supports drought-hardy native plantings far better than a conventional lawn, which struggles on a hot, exposed slope. We design efficient drip zones for beds and native areas, drilling and sawing rock for lines where needed, and rely on tough natives that hold soil on the grade and reduce both water use and erosion.
Fencing goes on steel posts anchored in stone, and hardscape steps and paths are terraced to make steep lots walkable. About eighteen miles from our shop, Jonestown is within our range for slope drainage, timber decks, native landscaping, and backflow testing.
